Gore-Tex is a registered trademark of the U.S.W.L. Gore & Associatescompany, and it is a waterproof and breathable fabric jointly invented in1976byWilbert L. Gore,Rowena Taylor, andRobert W. Gore(son ofWilbert L. Gore). This fabric is widely used in outdoor clothing for mountaineering and cold protection. The patent they obtained is (in English) U.S. Patent 3953566.

GORE-TEX? Performance Shell 3L“3L” refers to a three-layer fabric product. The more commonly seen in the market are two-layer fabric Gore-Tex jackets. The two-layer fabric combines the Gore-Tex?membrane with the outer fabric, featuring a separate inner lining material for protection. The new three-layer fabric integrates the Gore-Tex?membrane with a durable outer fabric and a long-lasting special inner lining material, offering greater breathability, lightness, and enhanced durability.

Evaluation Process:

Upon receiving this NORTHLAND-brandedthree-layer Gore-Tex® fabricjacket, I eagerly opened the package, and a deep blue jacket appeared before my eyes. Its elegant color immediately reminded me of the blue night sky, with the main waterproof zipper like a galaxy adorning the center. The waterproof zippers on both side pockets and theNORTHLAND'slogoresembled twinkling stars scattered beside the galaxy. This design aesthetic instantly puts one in a relaxed mood, even before stepping outdoors.

The image above also highlights a key design feature of this jacket. Hikers often experience shoulder abrasion from backpack straps, which can easily wear out the jacket and cause leakage. This NORTHLAND jacket solves that issue with a friction pad design, extending the jacket’s lifespan. Additionally, the backpack stays in place more easily, helping maintain balance while walking.

The collar is designed quite high—this is the only jacket I’ve seen with such a tall collar. This design effectively blocks cold air from entering through the neck. To address potential breathing issues caused by the high collar, a vent hole has been specially added in the middle of the zipper.

2012In3month3Day, I wore this waterproof jacket to the snow-covered Xiling Mountain in Zhuolu, Hebei, the second highest mountain in Hebei with an altitude of2420meters,where the temperature was below10degrees, with winds at5-6on the Beaufort scale, and snow depth about10centimeters. While comfortably hiking through the birch forest, although the wind whistled past my ears, it didn’t take away any of my body heat. The moisture from my breath during movement also didn’t create a clammy feeling inside the jacket. Of course, having good gear is important, but knowing how to use it is too — the function of a waterproof jacket is to block cold wind and rain while allowing the moisture your body produces to escape, keeping you dry. So if you’re sweating and moisture turns to droplets, the jacket can’t expel it, and you’ll still feel damp. That means we should reduce clothing layers gradually before we start sweating.

I frolicked freely, rolling around in the snow without a single drop of meltwater seeping through the inside of the jacket. Can your waterproof jacket do that? Come and give it a try yourself.

When moving through bushes, countless hard branches scraped across the surface of the jacket repeatedly, yet not even a tiny mark appeared, nor did it affect the jacket’s built-in waterproof and breathable features. During this hike from Baiyu to Wangdatai and then Huangcaoliang, it kept me warm, blocked the wind, and continuously vented moist air out of the jacket. On this moderately challenging trip, the lightweight design of the jacket allowed me to carry extra gear and supplies.-Wangdatai-During the traverse of Huangcaogang, it kept me warm, shielded me from the wind, and continuously expelled moist air out of my clothing. In this moderately strenuous activity, the lightweight design of the down jacket allowed me to carry more other gear and supplies as well. Breathable+Breathable+Waterproof+Durable=Lightweight

A perfect waterproof jacket.

3Noxionlan gave me a comfortable outdoor life.11MonthDay10, with continuous winds in Beijing, Shidao Liang was right in the wind path, temperatures dropped below7-8degrees, with winds at

3on the Beaufort scale. The wind was so strong that standing upright was difficult, and my fellow hikers all felt very cold, with their jackets letting some wind through. But thanks to the protection of this Noxionlan three-layer Gore-Tex® fabric waterproof jacket, I remained dry and warm. Isn’t the joy of outdoor activities supposed to be a relaxed state of mind? But if the wind is robbing you of your body heat and making you shiver, where does comfort go? So those who want to look stylish while enjoying the outdoors should definitely choose a jacket like this, hehe.10MonthDay

, the route from Potou to Guanghui Temple fully demonstrated the windproof performance of this Noxionlan jacket. That day, the wind was howling wildly with flying sand and stones. Winds of seven or eight levels stung my face as they carried grit, and the gusts swept away surface moisture from my skin, creating a feeling like it might crack from dryness. This jacket's windproof ability was like that of plastic sheeting. Although it did away with a traditional wind skirt design, it solved the issue with a drawstring, reducing the overall weight. Imagine putting on the hood in such strong winds and suddenly feeling like there’s no wind at all. But enough talk — pictures speak louder than words.

Test Summary:This Noxionlan waterproof jacket excels in design, craftsmanship, and fabric selection. In today’s world where easy-going outdoor living is promoted, many hikers and non-hikers alike have joined outdoor activities. When choosing a waterproof jacket, I believe one should follow several principles: First, don’t buy expensive — buy the right one, because for general mountain outdoor sports, you don’t need a top-tier jacket since you won’t be climbing Mount Everest in it. Second, choose according to actual climate and season — a thick jacket in summer, well, you get the idea. A thin one in winter? You know that too. Third, pay attention to the fabric material. Currently, many companies worldwide research and produce waterproof and breathable fabrics, but I believeGore-Tex

This NORTHLAND jacket3Kis moderately priced—not the most expensive, nor the cheapest. It features a three-layer bondedthree-layer Gore-Tex® fabric, so just adding a liner is enough to handle extreme conditions. In terms of cost-performance, this jacket is definitely worth it.

Whether in snowy terrain or ataltitudes2420ofhigh winds, it kept me dry and comfortable. The primary function of a shell jacket is to maintain dryness, and this NORTHLAND jacket delivers. I believe it’s suitable for outdoor activities in spring, autumn, and winter, and can be stored in your backpack as backup during hikes. It’s a great choice for both beginners and experienced hikers.

I believe that “lightweight dryness is the key” for outdoor trips—and this jacket achieves it.

Suggestions for improvement:It would be good to add breathable zippers under the armpits to enhance ventilation during intense activity.

Once again, thank you to NORTHLAND and the outdoor websites alliance for giving me the opportunity to test this jacket. Thanks to its protection, I was able to comfortably and easily enjoy outdoor adventures at Hebei’s Xiling Mountain, Huangcaoliang, Shidao Liang, Jiulong Mountain, Hongluo Sanxian, Dingdu Peak, and Henan’s Taihang Mountains. Thank you all.
