Selfie series goes wild: Spanish avant-garde artist Joan Cornellà’s special exhibition

The globally adored Spanish avant-garde artist known for his dark humor, Joan Cornellà, is back in Taiwan with a new exhibition!

With his prolific creativity, his first Taiwan exhibition in 2016 attracted over 20,000 visitors within just 17 days.

After a three-year hiatus, starting November 15th in collaboration with “JUSTLIVE 就是现场,” the “JOAN CORNELLÀ: I’M FULL OF SHIT Taipei Special Exhibition 2019” will showcase dozens of brand-new works, limited edition prints, and two selfie series sculptures. Additionally, his latest sketchbook 《Everyone Dies Alone》, released this year, will be available for limited sale during the exhibition period. This allows fans to once again step into Joan Cornellà’s crazy and surreal world, experiencing the closest proximity to evil in our era through his artworks!

Hailing from Barcelona, Joan Cornellà often draws inspiration from themes such as sex, religion, race, and politics. With a unique perspective and almost surreal vibrant colors, he transforms contemporary societal taboos into his distinctive and bizarre style.

Even when depicting ordinary daily scenes, his work presents a uniquely contrasting and conflicting aesthetic. Using a distinctly classical comic/animation approach, his characters often feature vacant, nihilistic gazes and an eerie smile that persists no matter what absurdities or bizarre situations they face. His unconventional and darkly humorous style has spread from social media across the globe, amassing over 2.5 million followers to date.

The two selfie series sculptures making their Taiwan debut are among Joan Cornellà’s most iconic and beloved creations. Though themed around satirizing today’s selfie culture, they have attracted numerous visitors eager to take selfies with the artworks—using mockery of the audience to entertain them, something only Joan Cornellà could pull off so effortlessly.
