Fukuoka in Kyushu has long been a gateway for cultural exchange between Japan and China. The Naka River, which runs through the city, separates the west bank, the political domain of the feudal lords in Fukuoka, from the east bank, where Hakata was primarily focused on economic activities. It wasn’t until the Meiji era reforms that government offices were officially named “Fukuoka,” while traditional festivals retained the name “Hakata.”

The “Fukuoka Trip” is divided into cultural experiences and strolling tours. Foreign tourists can join programs such as “Join Us ~ to Experience Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy, Pottery, and Kimono,” “Experience Japanese Fashion Trends — Want to Get Up Close with Japanese Pop Culture?”, “A Stroll Through Hakata Teramachi, Calligraphy Experience, and Make Your Own Calligraphy T-Shirt,” and “A Walk in Hakata Teramachi with a Furisode Kimono Experience,” among 12 different options. These programs come with guides in English, Chinese, and Korean. Since each route is hosted by different organizers and requires advance booking, details about registration, fees, and itinerary content can be obtained by contacting the respective organizers via the official website.
