Extreme Adventure Team Departure
As the first leg of the “Quest for Local Pioneers” activity, the Extreme Adventure Journey will be guided by Wang Jing (Fei Xue Jing Jing), a renowned Chinese mountaineer, record holder for the most ascents of 8000-meter peaks by a Chinese woman, and co-founder of The North Face. She will lead two pioneers on an expedition to the South Base Camp of Mount Everest in Nepal, completing a quest for those who embody perseverance and brave the challenges of extreme adventure.
The “Quest for Local Pioneers” event has been successfully held twice since 2011. This year’s theme, “Brave to live, truly lived,” aims to seek out everyday individuals who have bravely lived out their ideals. The competition format differs from previous editions. The entire event consists of an online platform and preliminary selection stops in five cities including Beijing and Chengdu. Sixteen winners from each stop will advance to the knockout rounds, and the final two winners who complete all tasks will embark on an adventure to one of the five Extreme Lands under the guidance of their respective mentors, experiencing The North Face's brave polar journeys. In addition to significant differences in personnel selection and scale compared to the past two editions, this year’s selection of volunteers places greater emphasis not only on physical fitness and outdoor experience but also on seeking out those with brave hearts. The hope is that their past experiences and unwavering spirit in chasing dreams will inspire many to forge their own life paths.
In addition to mountaineer Wang Jing, the mentors for the five competition stops include four others: Chen Liangzhong – the Eco Pioneer; Li Shuankuo – the Humanities Pioneer; Yu Yuntian – the Soul Pioneer; and Wang Feng – the Rock & Roll Pioneer. They will lead volunteers to five Extreme Lands: Extreme Majesty, Extreme Spirit, Extreme Beauty, Extreme Sanctity, and Extreme Joy.
The online preliminary selection for the second stop — the Extreme Spirit Land: Baima Snow Mountain — has already begun on The North Face’s official website, and city-level selections are expected to start in early May. Eco Pioneer Chen Liangzhong is looking forward to the early arrival of his fellow volunteers to embark together on the Extreme Spirit scientific exploration journey.
