At Miaoli’s Houlong Beautiful Cape, you can see trains on the coastal line passing by—reminiscent of foreign electric multiple units. The short trains move slowly at a leisurely pace, and the nearby fields resemble the rural scenery of Japan. Gazing out to appreciate the beauty of the railway offers a completely different charm.

The Hakka Earthen Roundhouse in Miaoli is located near the Houlong Interchange. Covering an area of 1,385 square meters, its architecture is modeled after the traditional earthen roundhouses of the mainland ancestral region, exuding a strong Hakka flavor.

Located in Miaoli’s Houlong, Qinghai Temple can be spotted from the nearby Beautiful Cape Scenic Area. From afar, you can see the statue of Mazu, radiating an image of protecting the nation and its people. Walking less than 10 minutes from the south side of Qinghai Temple, besides enjoying the coastal scenery, you can also witness the moment when trains pass by the statue of Mazu—sometimes even capturing a magical shot that looks as if Mazu is riding the train.

In the Houlong area of Miaoli County, around the Beautiful Cape, there used to be a coastal railway line. However, after the railway was rerouted, the century-old Guogang Old Tunnel complex has been transformed into a new tourist highlight. The Houlong Township Office recently secured NT$20 million in funding from the Tourism Bureau to install colorful decorative lighting in the tunnels. The surrounding area also offers beautiful sea views, making Houlong’s Beautiful Cape a new destination for spring outings.
