Continuous rainfall in the mountainous areas of Nantou County led to an emergency for two hikers from northern Taiwan who were climbing the Nenggao and Andongjun mountains. Twenty-nine-year-old Ye Ziwei fell off a cliff and sustained serious injuries. His companion, Li Zehong, was unable to help and ran on foot to Aowanda, where he had mobile phone reception, to call for help. Police, volunteer firefighters, and forest rangers joined forces with the Air Rescue Squadron in a large-scale search operation, and the injured hiker was transported to hospital around noon on the 21st.
Zeng Xingming, deputy chief of the Second Brigade of the Nantou County Fire Bureau, stated that Ye Ziwei and Li Zehong, who reside in Tianmu, Taipei City, entered the trail at the Tungyuan hiking entrance on the 16th and had planned to descend on the 20th. However, around 3 p.m. two days ago, Ye Ziwei slipped and fell into a valley along a trail approximately 15 kilometers from the entrance, resulting in severe spinal injuries.
After Li Zehong sought help from the police and firefighters, firefighters Su Yusheng and Shen Wenguang, along with forest rangers Li Zhengyi and Li Qingxiong from the Forestry Bureau, carried various ropes and set out on foot. They searched until midnight on the 21st before locating the injured hiker. As the victim had broken ribs and was unable to stand, the rescue team called for assistance from the Air Rescue Squadron.
