Lin Xihai, an 80-year-old man, went hiking with friends late last month at Fufu Mountain in Xuewunao, Fuxing Township, but unexpectedly went missing. The Daxi police and firefighters searched the mountain for five consecutive days but found nothing. Near noon on the fourth day, the victim’s body was discovered in the riverbed 1,100 meters below Xuewunao, leaving the family devastated by the tragic news.
On the afternoon of February 28, the Yonghua Police Station of the Daxi Precinct received a report from Lin Kexiong, stating that his father, Lin Xihai (80 years old, from Tainan City), along with five friends, had planned to hike Fufu Mountain in Xuewunao, Fuxing Township. He had returned to the car to fetch warm clothing for his father but, in the blink of an eye, could no longer find him, prompting him to ask the police for help in locating his father.
Including Chief You Huajin and volunteer mountain police, along with 13 members of the fire brigade, they immediately entered the mountain area to search. However, at the time, heavy fog had set in the mountains, temperatures dropped sharply, visibility worsened after nightfall, making the rescue difficult. Near midnight, the team temporarily returned to the police station to rest, and resumed the search the next day, forming a rescue team to continue the operation. The search lasted five consecutive days, mobilizing over 100 personnel.
The rescue team found the missing Mr. Lin around 11:30 a.m. yesterday at the riverbed 1,100 meters below Xuewunao in Fuxing Township. The fire brigade immediately performed CPR, but unfortunately, there was no heartbeat or sign of life. Rescue personnel took turns carrying the body on a stretcher, hauling it ashore and then transporting it down the mountain. Family members wept over the body, while the exact cause of death is still under investigation by the police.
