Mayon Volcano is an active volcano and is considered the most active in the Philippines, erupting about 40 times a year. Eruptions like the one yesterday are not uncommon for Mayon. Although climbing Mayon Volcano carries considerable risks, many hikers — especially foreign ones — are willing to take the gamble in recent times due to its relative stability, unique crater views, and the spectacular sight of lava flows.
