Japan’s Mount Fuji has begun a trial today of charging climbers a fee of 1,000 Japanese yen, or around 300 Taiwanese dollars, per person.
Japanese media report that during the trial period, staff will set up collection boxes at four climbing entrances to collect the fees. Climbers who pay will receive a Mount Fuji pin as a souvenir. However, since the trial fee is not mandatory, climbers can choose not to pay. The trial period will run until the 3rd of next month.
