The office reminds residents in mountainous areas and hikers to take proper protective precautions to avoid contact with macaques and other unidentified wild animals. If scratched or bitten by an animal, immediately wash the wound with soap and plenty of water for 15 minutes, then disinfect with iodine tincture or 70% alcohol, and seek medical attention as soon as possible. A doctor will assess and carry out any necessary medical treatment to reduce the risk of rabies infection.
