Taiwan’s Cycling King of the Mountains Challenge kicked off today, with Wang Yin-zhi setting a personal goal of finishing in under 3 hours and 30 minutes. Today, he not only met his target but also secured an impressive 3rd place finish.
Taiwan’s Cycling King of the Mountains Challenge has begun. The event started on the morning of the 9th from Qixingtan in Hualien, passing through scenic spots such as Taroko Gorge and the Central Cross-Island Highway, climbing all the way to Hehuanshan Wuling — the highest point on Taiwan’s highways at 3,275 meters above sea level. The total race distance was 105 kilometers.
Taiwanese rider Wang Yin-zhi won the national title last year with a time of 3 hours, 35 minutes, and 23 seconds. That performance ranked him 1st among Asian riders and 5th overall. Prior to this year’s race, Wang set himself
In today's race, Wang Yinzheng achieved an impressive result with a time of 3 hours, 27 minutes, and 53 seconds, securing 3rd place. His time was over 7 minutes faster than last year’s, and even quicker than his own target of 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Wang Yinzheng said that with last year’s racing experience, he had set his goal this year to determine the outcome on the Dayuling section. Therefore, before reaching that part of the course, he rode at 80–90% of his full effort, successfully managing his pacing and energy levels.
Wang Yinzheng also mentioned that the top two riders were very fast, and many competitors fell behind and were quickly left behind. He gritted his teeth and held on, maintaining a position between 3rd and 5th for most of the latter part of the race. It wasn’t until the final 1.5 kilometers that he gave it his all, pushing with every ounce of strength to overtake the riders ahead and claim 3rd place.
Wang Yinzheng stated that being able to ride at his own pace was the key to achieving such a strong result. 1021109
