Do you think transparent cable cars are only available abroad? Now you can experience this unprecedented wonder in Taiwan too. With breathtaking mountain and forest views beneath your feet through special glass, the Maokong Gondola’s “Eyes of Maokong Gondola” (水晶车厢) crystal cabin has been hugely popular since its launch. It’s currently available at the original price—no extra charge needed.
Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation states that the current system availability of the Maokong Gondola is as high as 99.92%. The floor of the “Eyes of Maokong Gondola” crystal cabin consists of three layers of tempered glass, with a total thickness of about 48mm and a glass weight of approximately 213kg. It was installed under the guidance of specially assigned technicians from SIGMA, the French POMA system cabin manufacturer, and the transparent glass has passed European CE safety certification. The regular Maokong Gondola cabins can carry up to 640kg, with a limit of 8 passengers, while the “Eyes of Maokong Gondola” crystal cabin is limited to 5 passengers. Travelers can choose to ride either the regular cabin or the “Eyes of Maokong Gondola” crystal cabin.
The “Eyes of Maokong Gondola” crystal cabin officially launched on November 2, and the number of such cabins increased to 30 by the 6th. These cable cars, equipped with special transparent floor glass, offer direct aerial views of Maokong. Due to load requirements, each crystal cabin is limited to 5 passengers. However, due to high demand, a “number-drawing” system is in place where passengers ride based on their drawn time slot and number. The initial ticket prices remain unchanged (maximum NT$50 for a one-way trip, NT$100 for a round trip).
