One of the buildings currently capturing the most attention in Japan is “Tokyo Skytree.” Tokyo Skytree is situated near the historic streets of Asakusa, Mukojima, and Ryogoku—areas with a 400-year heritage. Currently under construction, it is expected to be completed in December 2011 as the world’s tallest freestanding radio tower.

In this area, neighborhoods have continuously evolved since ancient times, coexisting with the eras, where traditional and modern elements blend seamlessly. From the famous Senso-ji Temple at Kaminarimon, you can take a rickshaw ride and look up to see the 634-meter-tall Tokyo Skytree. It can also be leisurely admired from a sightseeing boat on the Sumida River or from the nearby geisha district of Mukojima and the Kuramae Kokugikan, home of sumo wrestling.

Construction of Tokyo Skytree began in July 2008. By October 2010, its height had reached 470 meters. Currently, the second observation deck (at 450 meters) is under construction, followed by the upper antenna section. The radio tower portion is expected to open to the public in spring 2012. With nearby attractions such as an aquarium and planetarium, it will surely become a top tourist destination.
