“Mayor Hu, Please Bring My Parents Home from the Mountain Tragedy!” Ou Renqin and Yan Guixiang, a retired couple who both worked as junior high school teachers, went missing on November 25 last year while hiking the “Holy Ridge Trail.” They have had no contact since then. Their sons, accompanied by city councilor Chen Qinglong, appealed to Mayor Hu Zhiqiang on the 12th, requesting assistance in recovering their parents' remains so they can be laid to rest. Hu Zhiqiang promised full support.
Ou Zonghan and Ou Zongze, the sons of the couple surnamed Ou, knelt yesterday at the city council holding posters that read “Bring My Parents Home” and “Laid to Rest,” as well as a petition, to appeal to Mayor Hu Zhiqiang. The mayor quickly stopped them from kneeling and listened to the brothers’ plea.
Ou Zonghan said their parents, who had taught at the junior high school level for over 30 years before retiring, went hiking on the Holy Ridge Trail in Shei-Pa National Park and were originally scheduled to come down the mountain on December 1. When they did not return home that day, the brothers immediately tried to contact them and filed a report. However, due to severe weather conditions, firefighters faced great difficulty in the search and rescue operation and found nothing. More than 100 days later, there is still no news of the parents.
Ou Zongze pointed out that the area where the parents went missing is at the junction of Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Taichung City, and the family has suffered from being passed around by different agencies.
