The no-smoking range has been expanded again today (April 1st), including parks, green spaces, national parks, and forest recreation areas. The Kaohsiung City Health Bureau dispatched over fifty people today (April 1st) to inspect parks in various districts, with inspectors also hiking up Shoushan. Due to prior awareness campaigns, the public has reached a consensus on the smoking ban, so no violations of smoking regulations were found during the morning inspections.
Kaohsiung City Health Bureau Section Chief Li Suhua said that parks and green spaces are places for the public and children to relax and recreate, and the smoking ban is meant to protect them from secondhand smoke. Those who smoke in no-smoking areas will be penalized with fines ranging from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000 according to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. The no-smoking areas include parks and green spaces across Kaohsiung, as well as Chengcing Lake, Shoushan, and the Maolin National Scenic Area.
