A 68-year-old man surnamed Chen went hiking on Jiuxionggen Mountain in Pinglin District, New Taipei City, on the afternoon of the 13th. After getting lost and being unable to descend, he called the fire department for help at around 5 p.m. The fire department mobilized 30 police, firefighters, and volunteer rescuers to search the mountain. As the elderly man did not have a smartphone and could not provide a GPS location, rescue workers spent 13 hours searching before finally locating the shivering man at 6 a.m. on the 14th. Fortunately, he was not in life-threatening condition. It took another two hours to safely bring him down the mountain by 8 a.m.
