160 members of the Taoyuan Hiking Club were hiking on the Nanao Chaoyang National Hiking Trail this morning (15th) when seven of them, who had climbed up to a wooden boardwalk about 200 meters high, suddenly experienced over 10 wooden planks collapsing beneath them. The seven hikers failed to react in time and fell from a height of nearly 5 meters. They sustained injuries to their feet, waists, and other parts of their bodies. After receiving the report, police and firefighters sent the seven individuals to the Nanao Health Center for initial treatment, before transferring them to the Luyou Boroh, St. Mary’s, and Su’ao Veterans General Hospitals for further medical care.

One member surnamed Zhang described the scene with great fear. She said that just as she was about to step onto the stairs, she saw the hikers ahead of her start to fall, and within seconds, the entire wooden boardwalk collapsed. “I was scared to death!” What was supposed to be a joyful hike turned into a major disaster, which caught all the hikers completely off guard.
