In winter in Sendai, northeastern Japan, the “Pageant of Starlight” festival is held every year, drawing visitors from across the nation to bask in Sendai’s enchanting and vibrant night scenes. This year’s “SENDAI Pageant of Starlight” will be held grandly from December 3 (Friday) to December 31, with nearly one kilometer of zelkova trees along Jozenji Street adorned with colorful lights, illuminating the entire street.

Jozenji Street, which stretches 800 meters, is lined with zelkova trees and is iconic to Sendai. During the Pageant of Starlight, nearly one kilometer of light displays will appear along both Jozenji Street and Aoba Street. At each scheduled lighting time, bursts of cheers erupt from the crowds.

The lighting display runs from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM. The “A Starlight Wink,” where neon lights briefly turn off before turning back on, takes place at 6 PM, 7 PM, and 8 PM daily. Starting December 10 (Friday), a special ice-skating rink will also open for visitors’ enjoyment, with free admission.
