With outdoor leisure activities such as hiking and camping becoming increasingly popular, many people often use climbing stoves paired with climbing gas canisters to cook food. The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs today announced the results of its spot checks on commercially available climbing gas canisters, with all samples found to be up to standard.
The BSMI recently conducted market sample testing of climbing gas canisters at department stores, specialty outdoor gear shops, and hypermarkets, purchasing a total of 10 different brands and models of climbing gas canisters.
The BSMI stated that all test results were satisfactory. Moving forward, it will continue to strengthen factory and import inspections as well as market surveillance of climbing gas canisters to safeguard consumer rights and ensure usage safety.
The BSMI reminded the public that before using climbing gas canisters, they should check that the cylinders show no signs of corrosion and pay attention to whether there are any bulges on the concave bottom of the canister. If any bulging or corrosion is observed, the canister should be taken out of use and returned to the manufacturer for handling. 1030814
