The Taichung City Water Resources Bureau will hold a “Value Soil and Water Conservation & Care for Mountains” hiking event at 5:00 AM on September 13 at the Zhukeng Nanliao Hiking Trail in Longjing District. Successful registrants will receive a free event POLO shirt, and those who complete the entire hike can join a lucky draw with prizes including a 42-inch LCD TV and smartphones. Citizens are welcome to sign up and participate.
The Water Resources Bureau stated that the hiking route starts from the Zhukeng entrance of the Zhukeng Nanliao Hiking Trail, follows the main trail to the viewing platform, and covers a round-trip distance of approximately 2.5 kilometers, which can be completed in about two hours. The hiking trail offers expansive views, allowing participants to gaze at the sea along the coast of Longjing and beneath Dadu Mountain, taking in both mountain and water scenery while enjoying the benefits of phytoncides and negative ions.
Water Resources Bureau Director Liu Zhenyu said that this hiking trail was improved and completed in November 2013. The project mainly included ecological stone check dams and stone-lined channel stabilization works, creating a natural ecological environment around the trail that is different from the past. It has established a recreational space that is both water-friendly and ecological, with flood prevention functions, providing the public with a safer leisure area. It has now become a popular hiking destination in Taichung City.
