Thunderstorms hit Taichung yesterday afternoon, during which a female hiker became weak and unwell on Kite Beak Mountain. Rescue personnel braved the rain to save her on the cliffs, and with the help of fellow hikers, she was carried down the mountain and sent to hospital.

The Dadong Police Station of the Heping Branch of the Taichung City Police Department said today that they received a report yesterday afternoon: a hiking group of over 30 people was climbing Kite Beak Mountain when a 56-year-old woman surnamed Kuo felt unwell and became stranded in the mountains unable to descend.
Three police officers and paramedics went up the mountain. At the time, a sudden thunderstorm struck, but the three braved the downpour and located the woman near the Kite Beak Mountain triangulation station. She had a pale complexion, weak breathing, and had collapsed on the ground. The paramedics provided her with an oxygen tank, water, and dry rations, while also calming her down. Her condition gradually improved, and she was then helped down the mountain.
The woman, surnamed Kuo, told rescuers that she suffered from arrhythmia and diabetes among other conditions.
Police and paramedics assisted the woman by supporting her as she climbed down the bare, wet, and steep cliffs. Along the way, she was completely exhausted, needing to rest every 20 to 30 meters, and at one point became weak and intermittently lost consciousness.
