A hiker in Sichuan was injured in a fall during an unauthorized climb; 18 rescuers rushed to the scene

The management bureau of Mount Siguniang Scenic Area in Sichuan said on the 3rd that a Wang, a hiker from Chongqing University, slipped and was injured while descending from Yinggezui in Haizi Valley within the scenic area. Rescuers successfully saved the hiker after a 10-hour relay rescue operation.

China News Service reported that at 11:42 a.m. on May 2, the management bureau of Mount Siguniang Scenic Area received a phone report stating that a Wang surnamed hiker from Hunan had slipped and been injured while descending from Yinggezui in Haizi Valley, and was in critical condition.

After receiving the report, the scenic area management activated its emergency response plan and assembled a rescue team to carry out the rescue mission. Learning that the injured hiker was in serious condition, above the snow line, at a remote location, with rapidly changing weather and a lengthy rescue process, the Mount Siguniang Management Bureau dispatched three batches of rescuers totaling 18 people at 12:35, 13:15, and 15:30, including one medical staff member from the emergency center, who carried rescue equipment and food to the incident site to carry out emergency rescue operations.

At 4:50 p.m., the first batch of rescuers arrived at the location of the injured person and found the victim with bleeding from the mouth and nose, purple and swollen lips, bruises all over the body, and in a state of shock. Medical personnel immediately conducted examinations and treatment. Based on the hiker’s injuries, the rescue team used ropes to fashion a stretcher and carried the person down.

At 7:00 p.m., all rescuers regrouped at Da Haizi, took a brief meal break, and continued the descent. By 10:00 p.m., the rescue team successfully delivered the injured Wang to Siguniang Town. After another medical check, he was sent overnight by vehicle to Chengdu for further treatment.

Investigation revealed that the Wang hiker was part of a group of 15—students from Chongqing University—who, under the guidance of a coordinator, had registered for a camping permit at Da Haizi with the Mount Siguniang Management Bureau but were suspected of engaging in unauthorized climbing when the accident occurred.

Currently, the injured Wang is undergoing treatment in Chengdu and is out of immediate life-threatening danger. Relevant investigations are still ongoing.
