Camellias for a Century of Harmony: 2011 Taipei Camellia Exhibition

Native to China, the camellia is one of the top ten famous flowers. Blooming from the cold early spring through to the fragrant days of peach and plum blossoms, the camellia has accompanied humanity for over 2,500 years, forming a rich camellia culture that holds great ornamental and promotional value.

The Flower Trial Center in Shanzihou, Yangmingshan, can be considered the first area in northern Taiwan to introduce and cultivate camellias. Thanks to its slightly acidic soil and year-round misty conditions, camellias have been planted here since the Japanese colonial period. Today, they have grown into a lush forest, creating a stunning pink sea of flowers when in bloom. The colorful fallen petals contrast vividly with the emerald green moss below, making it a must-visit spot for tourists and couples taking wedding photos.
