The CTi idol drama "The Day I Lost You," themed around "spinocerebellar ataxia" and based on a true story, held its premiere in Taipei on the 16th. Director Zero Chou led the main cast including Wang Chuan-yi, Li Qian-na, Chen Yi, Mo Yun-wen, Liu Rui-qi, Gu Bin, Lu Jia-xin, and Lin Wei-li to attend, sharing anecdotes about their hike up to Lake Kajin at an altitude of 3,310 meters and filming in the mountain tribe of Smangus in Hsinchu. They also emphasized that the drama’s message is to face life with optimism and bravely pursue dreams.
The drama will premiere at 10 p.m. on the 19th, while China Television’s comprehensive channel will air it at 11 p.m. on the 25th. A 15-minute trailer was also unveiled at the premiere. Wang Chuan-yi plays a spinocerebellar ataxia patient named "Meng Ze-ming." In the drama, he shares warm, touching, and supportive family bonds with his mother who is a school principal (Liu Rui-qi) and his younger brother "Meng Ze-qing" (Chen Yi), as well as complex emotions with his girlfriend "He Xuan" (Li Qian-na) and best friend "Han Yi" (Mo Yun-wen).
The plot realistically portrays the physical, mental, and financial hardships faced by patients with rare diseases. The actors, who were deeply immersed in their roles, had either teary eyes or were still wiping away tears when watching the trailer.
Spinocerebellar ataxia is a hereditary rare disease caused by genetic defects. After onset, the body gradually loses control, eventually leading to being bedridden until death. To make his character more realistic, Wang Chuan-yi intentionally lost weight, avoiding the gym for a month to let his muscles slacken and his arms shrink by 2 cm, achieving a weak and feeble appearance.
Over the two months of shooting, Wang Chuan-yi, Li Qian-na, Chen Yi, and Mo Yun-wen not only climbed Lake Kajin together but also spent extended periods filming in the remote Smangus area, forming strong friendships and giving each other nicknames: ticklish Wang Chuan-yi became "Goo Ji Ming," Li Qian-na, who has an inexplicable fear of "dinosaurs," was called "Dinosaur Xuan," Chen Yi, who hates eggplants and gets sick at the sight of them, earned the nickname "Eggplant Qing," and Mo Yun-wen, who screams at the sight of frogs and toads, was dubbed "Frog Wen."
