On the 27th, Yu Shiping, Chief of Tai Gang Police Station under Hengshan Precinct of Hsinchu County Police Bureau, attended an award ceremony at the National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior, to receive the "Good Cop with Tea" award. At the end of last month, Chief Yu heroically rescued 17 hikers stranded during Typhoon Dujuan. His brave actions were recognized among the nation’s top police good deeds from July to September, earning him the first-ever "Good Cop with Tea" Award in the Public Service category from the National Police Agency.
On September 28, Yu Shiping, Chief of Tai Gang Police Station, received a report that three hiking groups totaling 17 people were stranded in the Xibao Sacred Tree Group in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, due to the onslaught of Typhoon Dujuan. He immediately coordinated with local volunteer police and the Tianpu Fire Department to form an 11-person rescue team to locate the stranded hikers.
Authorities stated that the rescue route was fraught with falling rocks and muddy waters. The harsh weather and heavy rain had softened the soil, making the search and rescue even more challenging. After half an hour of searching, the team spotted the stranded group on the opposite side of the river valley. Considering the rapid currents and fading light, they decided that an immediate rescue would be too risky, so they guided the hikers to set up temporary camp near the valley. On the 29th, the rescue team advanced again to the sacred tree area and successfully helped all 17 individuals escape the river valley.
Zhang Yizhen, Chief of Hengshan Precinct, said that Yu Shiping is a warm-hearted and proactive officer. He expressed gratitude for Yu’s tireless efforts in completing this difficult rescue mission, showcasing the courageous and dedicated spirit of Hengshan police officers. This recognition from the National Police Agency is truly an honor for the precinct.
