A British man has been missing for five days while hiking in Vietnam. Local authorities and police have dispatched over 100 personnel for a full-scale search and rescue operation, but there has been no progress so far.
Vietnam’s “Youth Newspaper” reported today that Aiden Shaw Webb, a 23-year-old British man, was traveling in Vietnam with his girlfriend. On the 3rd, he decided to conquer Fansipan, the highest peak in the region, but unfortunately went missing.
The report indicates that Webb’s girlfriend had initially planned to accompany him on the hike but decided against it due to fear of danger. Webb hiked alone on the 3rd and stayed in touch with his girlfriend through Facebook and text messages during the climb. However, in the evening of that day, he sent a message informing her that he had fallen into a valley and sustained an injury. He also used his phone’s location service to share his whereabouts.
Webb’s girlfriend promptly contacted the police for assistance. Local authorities and police have deployed over 100 people for an intensive rescue mission. However, due to the remote, rugged terrain with numerous valleys—and the fact that Webb’s phone soon became unreachable—there has still been no breakthrough. Search efforts are ongoing.
Fansipan is the highest peak in Vietnam’s Hoang Lien Son mountain range, located in Lao Cai Province in the northwest of the country, standing at an elevation of 3,143 meters. Not only is it Vietnam’s tallest mountain, but it is also the highest peak in the Indochina Peninsula and a renowned destination for hikers. 1050608
