Taiwanese Artist at the Venice Biennale Voices Taiwan

Wang Hong-kai’s work 《Our Work March》 uses “sound” as its main creative content and concept. She returned to her hometown of Huwei in Yunlin, collaborating with a local sugar factory that has a history of over 100 years. Retired employees and their families were invited back to the factory, where sound workshops were held to guide them in using microphones to actively record the sounds of their former working and living environments. Su Yu-hsien’s work 《Those Insignificant Sounds》 is a project focusing on ordinary people. He delved into the lower strata of society, rediscovering those living diverse yet ordinary lives—such as scavengers, foreign ship workers, and homeless individuals. Su invited them to form bands and create “music,” producing amateur albums in a manner similar to independent bands, using formats such as albums and documents. These works serve as a platform for these individuals or groups to have their voices heard.
