Cathay Financial Holdings held a weight-loss competition. A three-person team from Cathay United Bank called “Drank and Full” lost 49 kg in four months by drinking water to feel full. The individual male champion, Su Cheng-you, successfully shed 33.3 kg through small, frequent meals and hiking, transforming into a handsome dad.
Cathay Financial General Manager Li Chang-keng said that every year, the proportion of employees flagged for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol during health checkups is extremely high, prompting the company to consider using bonuses to encourage weight loss. Last year’s first-ever “Big Bellies and Little Bellies” weight-loss competition resulted in a total loss of 12,000 kg. This year, the effort went further — 9,000 participants shed a combined 15,000 kg. The initiative also incorporated a charitable component, donating NT$100 to the Hongdao Senior Citizens’ Welfare Foundation for every kilogram lost.
Li Chang-keng had pledged to lose 10 kg this year, but an ankle injury from a slip interrupted his exercise plan, resulting in a loss of only 5 kg.
Su Cheng-you, who won the top prize in the individual male category this year, lost a total of 33.3 kg. He revealed that his weight-loss secret was “eating small, frequent meals” along with joining a hiking club. His weight dropped from 112.3 kg to 79 kg, leaving friends and his girlfriend — who used to mock him — speechless.
Su Cheng-you said that to lose weight, he woke up at 4 a.m., hiked at 5 a.m., came down the mountain at 7 a.m., and started work at 8 a.m. every day without fail. On weekends, if he had time in the afternoon, he would also go to the gym and swim. As a result, he shed 30 kg in the first three months. He hopes to lose another 15 kg in the future to become a standard “handsome dad.” 1051212
