Taipei City’s city flower is the azalea, Chiayi County’s is the magnolia, and Miaoli County’s is the osmanthus. Meanwhile, at the end of last year, New Taipei City was upgraded and renamed, and will officially hold a vote for its “city tree and city flower.” From March 15 to April 15 of 100 (2011), the vote will be conducted via the internet. All participants will be eligible for a lucky draw, and the organizers will give away great prizes such as i-Pads, CANON digital cameras, Mio handheld satellite navigation devices, and Giant bicycles. The public is welcome to vote enthusiastically.

The “city tree and city flower” symbolize the spirit and environmental characteristics of a city. With the vision of a “Beautiful New Taipei City,” the municipality is moving toward a more livable and green future. Therefore, in addition to inviting citizens to participate in the vote, special efforts have been made through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Overseas Community Affairs Council to invite overseas residents from New Taipei City to cast their sacred votes. The selected trees and flowers will reflect the vitality and vigor of New Taipei City.

For the city tree, the candidate species include: camphor tree, Taiwan cherry, Taiwan ash, koa haole, and sweet gum; for the city flower, they include: azalea, camellia, osmanthus, hibiscus, and gardenia. Citizens are also welcome to nominate their own choices. Simply participating in the vote makes you eligible for the lucky draw. For details, please visit the official website.
