Two men and women were part of a hiking group climbing Yuushou Mountain but fell behind due to exhaustion and got lost in the mountains. They were successfully rescued today, both in good health and returned home after resting.
Wu, a male, and Hong, a female, joined a hiking group of over 20 people on the 12th to climb Yuushou Mountain—one of the "Six Beauties of Puli." Due to weaker physical conditions, Wu and Hong did not reach the summit. On the way back, as they were at the rear of the group and too tired to continue, they stopped to rest at a hunting lodge. When they tried to catch up, they took a wrong turn and became lost.
The two hikers attempted to call 110 and 119 for help in the Yuushou Mountain area but had no signal. Eventually, they managed to reach 112 and successfully reported their situation, describing the nearby terrain. Based on the information, Nantou police and firefighters deduced their possible location, advised them to stay put, and organized a large-scale, rotating search team. The pair was rescued this morning.
The Nantou County Fire Bureau stated that Yuushou Mountain is located near Huisun Forest Farm. A hiking group of over 20 people from Taichung went to climb the mountain, and two members fell behind and got lost. The Guoxing Fire Brigade immediately entered the mountains overnight, and this morning, over 20 personnel—including firefighters, volunteer firefighters, police, forestry officials, the National Search and Rescue Team, Huisun Forest Farm staff, and members of the hiking group—organized a rescue mission.
The rescue operation was directed by Wu Jiahong, head of the Fire Bureau’s Second Division. He said the rescue team found the two this morning, provided them with warmth and psychological support, assessed their condition as stable, and then escorted them to the Huisun Forest Farm Research and Learning Center to rest before returning home. No hospitalization was needed.
Hiking enthusiasts noted that Yuushou Mountain stands at an elevation of 2,105 meters. Though not a high-altitude peak, it is considered a mid-level mountain with a tough route—steep and challenging. For larger groups, it can be difficult to ensure everyone is looked after.
Lin Zhiquan, director of Huisun Forest Farm, said the Yuushou Mountain forest road is not within the farm’s open area, the trail is not clearly marked, and the terrain is rugged. He urged the public not to hike there casually to avoid accidents. 1060314
