In recent years, Macau has seen a growing number of large-scale entertainment resorts. With strong support for the local economy, various groups have integrated hotels, resorts, leisure, and entertainment into one, allowing visitors to satisfy all their needs in a single space. The upcoming "Galaxy Macau," set to open on May 15, 2011, is located in the Cotai area between The Venetian and City of Dreams, featuring three world-class hotels and the world’s largest indoor man-made beach. It is expected to become a highly popular new landmark.

Galaxy Macau has an investment of up to HK$14.9 billion (approximately NT$56.3 billion) and covers an area of 550,000 square meters. It is the only integrated resort in Macau developed with a resort-style theme. Its most distinctive feature is the 52,000-square-meter garden podium, which includes the world’s largest skytop wave pool with waves over 1.5 meters high, covering 4,000 square meters, as well as a man-made beach made with 350 tons of white sand. Galaxy Macau also houses 50 restaurants and combines three renowned Asian hotel brands: 250 suites and 10 overwater villas at Banyan Tree Macau; 500 rooms and suites at The Ritz-Carlton, Macau; and 1,500 rooms and suites at Galaxy Hotel. It will serve as the flagship hotel project of Galaxy Entertainment Group in Cotai, and also marks the official entry of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts and The Okura Prestige Tokyo into the Macau market.
