A 20-year-old mountain rescue worker surnamed Yang from Hsinchu’s Wufeng suffered from continuous vomiting and diarrhea late on the night of the 4th, leaving him unable to walk. He was awaiting rescue at the 17-kilometer mark of the Dalu Forest Road East Section. With mountain temperatures plummeting at night and no shelter to protect against potential hypothermia, fellow hikers reported the situation to Miaoli County Fire Bureau. Upon receiving the alert, the 5th Brigade of the Rapid 7th Corps promptly headed to the scene to provide assistance. They accompanied the rescue worker down the mountain to their brigade headquarters to rest before departing for medical care once daylight broke.
The team leader of the Guanwu Squad under the 5th Brigade of the Rapid 7th Corps, Yang Guiyuan, along with police officer Hu Xianhui and two others, joined personnel from the Guanwu Management Station of Shei-Pa National Park. Braving temperatures as low as 14 degrees Celsius and the dangers of falling rocks and landslides along the Dalu Forest Road East Section, they discovered the two individuals—surnamed Yang and Xie—at around 12:30 a.m. on the 5th, lying beside the forest road awaiting help. They immediately evacuated them via patrol vehicle and handed them over at approximately 1:40 a.m. to medical personnel from Hsinchu County Fire Bureau who were waiting at the Guanwu Squad for handover and assessment.
The 5th Brigade of the Rapid 7th Corps stated that the male individual, surnamed Yang, fell ill due to vomiting and diarrhea, and was accompanied by another man, surnamed Xie, in an emergency descent from Jiujue Villa. Due to poor visibility and treacherous mountain road conditions at night, Xie unfortunately sprained his left ankle, further slowing their progress. It was not until around 10 p.m. that they managed to descend to the Madala Stream hiking entrance.
With mountain temperatures sharply dropping and insufficient mountaineering gear to keep warm, they persevered until reaching the 17-kilometer point of the Dalu Forest Road East Section. The man surnamed Yang, suffering from exhaustion, was no longer able to walk. He sought shelter beside a stone table and bench nearby to guard against the cold and dialed 119 to call for help.
The 5th Brigade of the Rapid 7th Corps urges that transportation to and from the Guanwu recreational area of Shei-Pa National Park must be accessed via County Road 122 in Wufeng Township, Hsinchu County, and the Dalu Forest Road. Moreover, the 19-kilometer stretch of the Dalu Forest Road East Section from Guanwu to the Madala Stream hiking entrance—commonly used to ascend Mt. Dabajian—is prone to falling rocks and landslides during rainy weather, further complicating rescue and transport efforts. The brigade strongly advises hikers to carefully assess their physical condition before setting out, bring basic medications, avoid overestimating their mountaineering abilities, and refrain from hiking in the dark to prevent putting themselves in danger.
