Three men from Taichung went herb-picking in the Shouguan Mountain and Shoucheng Dashan areas of Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, five days ago. Not only did the trio get lost, but Yang also slipped and injured his waist. They called for help, and rescue teams found Zhou and Wang near a large landslide below Shoucheng Dashan on the morning of the 10th. The two, who were conscious but weak, were airlifted down the mountain. However, Yang, who had gone down the gully to find a way out, has not yet been found.
The Nantou County Fire Bureau’s Second Brigade stated that Yang and his two friends got lost while hiking. Due to intermittent mobile phone signals, it was difficult to pinpoint their location. Based on their earlier descriptions, they were roughly trapped near a cliff with two cherry blossom trees nearby. An aerial survey by an air force helicopter identified a location midway up Shoucheng Dashan that roughly matched their description.
Around 60 personnel from official and civilian rescue teams, including police and firefighters, volunteer firefighters, the Divine Eagle Search and Rescue Team, and the Forestry Bureau, were deployed to search for the men. Midway through the operation, it was reported that Yang, growing impatient with the wait, had left the group on his own and gone down the gully to find a way out. Helicopter rescue personnel took off yesterday when the weather stabilized to search the area where the three went missing. They spotted one person lying down and another standing, and transported Zhou and Wang down the mountain in two separate trips for medical treatment. However, Yang has not been found. Some ground search personnel have remained in the mountains to continue the search for him.
