A 62-year-old woman surnamed Yan from New Taipei City was hiking with her 48-year-old friend surnamed Huang at Emperor's Terrace in Shiding District around 11 a.m. today (12th). While ascending from the East Peak hiking trail toward West Peak, she reportedly slipped on the wet path due to consecutive days of rain in the mountainous area and fell 60 meters down a grassy slope. Responding police and firefighters arrived and used ropes to climb down and rescue her. Luckily, she only suffered minor abrasions and was unharmed. The officers also helped both women safely descend the mountain and return home.
Firefighting Bureau’s 4th Disaster Relief and Ambulance Division Chief Hsiao Likai reminded the public to pay close attention to trail conditions and weather when hiking, avoid going up the mountain in bad weather, and not hike alone to prevent being unable to call for help in case of an emergency.
