A Little Summer Getaway: Head to the mountains to cool off and sip fragrant tea. New Taipei City’s Pinglin District boasts a century-long tea-making heritage. During the tea harvest season, the fragrance of tea wafts across the hills, telling the story of this unique landscape and local culture. The New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau has organized four “Pinglin Low-Impact Travel” experience tours from June to December. The first session is scheduled to depart on Saturday, July 8. Online registration opens at 8:00 AM on June 29, with a participation fee of NT$250 per person and a limit of 25 people per session. Gather your friends and family and sign up together!
According to the Agriculture Bureau, the “Pinglin Low-Impact Travel” experience tour begins at a tea farmer’s home, offering participants a chance to get close to the life of Pinglin’s tea growers. Visitors can enjoy the fun of tea picking in the Taiwan Blue Magpie eco-friendly tea gardens, learn about tea knowledge, culture, environment, and ecology through interactions with farming families, and immerse themselves in the most authentic rural life of Pinglin.
The first session of the experience tour starts with a gathering at the Pinglin Tea Museum before heading to a tea farmer’s home. In addition to giving visitors a hands-on opportunity to experience the tea-making process, the activity also allows them to listen to tea stories in the mountains, taste the tea they’ve made themselves, and finally, after going through the processes of picking, pan-firing, rolling, and drying the tea leaves, pack their self-made tea into bags to take home—along with beautiful memories of the mountain town.
Registration for the first “Pinglin Low-Impact Travel” experience tour session opens online at 8:00 AM on June 29. The participation fee is NT$250 per person, which includes insurance, a guide’s tour, tea-picking materials, and lunch. Participants can also take home the tea they have picked and processed—guaranteed to be a rewarding experience. To maintain the quality of the event, each session is limited to 25 participants.
