The "One-Line Sky" area of Bagua Mountain in Changhua frequently sees hikers getting lost. The distress call from two men has sparked online discussion: could it be the "mountain spirits" appearing even before the seventh lunar month? Rescue personnel ventured into the mountainous terrain, navigating cliff-like paths where both sides looked nearly identical with little variation. After considerable effort, they finally located the two stranded hikers.
At the time, the two men had arranged to go hiking on Bagua Mountain but, reportedly unfamiliar with the trails, they spent hours wandering around the Eagle-Watching Platform’s One-Line Sky area, unable to find their way out, which prompted them to call 119 for help.
Strangely enough, rescuers could see the men from above, but the hikers couldn’t see the rescue team. Eventually, through shouting back and forth and using mobile phone positioning, the team maneuvered along the mountainside, crossed a stream valley, and rappelled down to a trail below the valley to guide the pair to safety.
Firefighters noted that the surrounding landscape features very similar scenery, and that getting lost is highly likely if hikers are unfamiliar with the area—sometimes with fatal consequences in the One-Line Sky. The fire department is considering installing route markers along the trails and reminding the public to wear bright clothing so they can be more easily spotted and rescued in case of an emergency.
