The Yushan National Park Administration celebrated its 33rd anniversary on the 10th with a ceremony and a saxophone concert held at the Shuili Visitor Center; Director Tseng Wei-hung expressed hopes to improve the administration’s operations through corporate social responsibility and global citizenship. Thank-you certificates were also presented to organizations such as Zhushan Show Chwan Hospital, China Steel, and Yushan Bank during the event.
Tseng Wei-hung shared three wishes: improving mountaineering safety, achieving the goal of replacing regulation with service, and working with colleagues to enhance service quality through training and service-oriented approaches. He encouraged all staff to strive for excellence in their duties, making Yushan more friendly and sustainable while enriching its ecological diversity.
Tseng Wei-hung noted that in 2017, the administration completed the training and internship program for new volunteers and promoted environmental education. It also guided indigenous tribes within and around the park in transitioning to ecological agriculture, with over half of the farmland in the Nanan area now certified organic. Regarding overall park planning, a digital management system was established, efforts to improve mountaineering safety were intensified, maintenance work on trails and signage was completed, and an updated guidebook of hiking trails in the park was produced.
Among the volunteers honored this year, 82-year-old conservation volunteer Wu Yicheng received the most attention, being awarded the Honorary Volunteer Prize, symbolizing a lifetime achievement for Yushan volunteers. Wu first climbed Yushan in 1969 and has nearly 50 years of mountaineering experience. His love for climbing led him to join the volunteer team to help protect Yushan. Volunteer Yeh Ming-ruei was also recognized with a bronze award from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for accumulating 3,000 service hours.
To promote the alpine ecological resources and cultural features of Yushan National Park, a special saxophone concert themed around Yushan was held in the evening, featuring musician Hu Sheng. The performance included indigenous music and Taiwanese folk songs.
