Located in the foodie hotspot of Yongkang Street, the area is home to numerous renowned old establishments. In addition to iconic spots like Din Tai Fung, Ga Ji, and Yongkang 15, which have become “attractions” in their own right, you can also find Japanese cuisine, beef noodles, and pasta here. It has become a must-visit destination for foreign tourists, and many local foodies also love to explore and discover unique eateries after work.

The average cost of dining on Yongkang Street is relatively high, but “Fengsheng Canteen” offers quite affordable prices.

Walking along Yongkang Street toward Lishui Street, the area near Jinhua Elementary School feels quieter. Along the way, you’ll pass small shops like teahouses and art galleries, before arriving at a corner eatery full of Taiwanese character—“Fengsheng Canteen.” The name evokes the generous, hearty image beloved by Taiwanese people. Simple and straightforward, the canteen specializes in home-style farm dishes that appeal to all ages, using familiar ingredients to recreate the most nostalgic Taiwanese flavors.

Lishui Street isn’t as crowded as the area around Yongkang Park.

Nowadays, many people—whether more or less—are accustomed to indulging in delicacies from land and sea, but rarely return to basics and enjoy simple, wholesome garden vegetables and fresh meats. Yet, meals don’t always need excessive processing or embellishment. With traditional farmhouse cooking techniques, even the simplest ingredients can offer unforgettable taste.

Dried Vegetable Pork (NT$160): Made with dried cauliflower from Puyin Township, Changhua County, the braised pork absorbs the fragrance of the vegetable, resulting in meat that is neither overly salty nor greasy.

Step up the stone steps, and you’re surrounded by red brick walls, wooden tables and chairs, doors, and window frames, paired with Hakka floral fabrics—creating an atmosphere straight out of a rustic, old-time farming village. Even the staff aren’t young; instead, they greet you with sincere, warm smiles. The owner hopes customers feel the hospitality and human touch of the shop, evoking a nostalgic sentiment of the 1950s. There’s no menu—just step up to the counter and order directly from the wooden menu board. You can also choose seasonal vegetables or seafood from the glass display case, where the staff will explain and introduce the options.
