According to Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting, a head-on collision occurred on a national highway in Yamada, Onna Village, Okinawa Prefecture, on the afternoon of September 26, resulting in the death of a Taiwanese tourist who was visiting Okinawa by rental car.
Local police stated that the Taiwanese family of three had rented a car for a self-drive tour. Around 3 p.m. on the 26th, while making a right turn on National Route 58 in Yamada, Onna Village, their vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming car.
The crash resulted in the death of the 50-year-old mother, who was sitting in the back seat, due to severe head trauma. The 49-year-old father, who was driving, and their teenage son, who was seated in the front, were not injured.
The 64-year-old male driver of the oncoming car sustained minor chest injuries.
The accident site was a four-lane intersection with good visibility. Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
