On July 28, 2013, the first China–Yingkou Minghu Lake Cycling Race concluded at Minghu Square in the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base. The event was jointly organized by the Cycling and Fencing Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Liaoning Provincial Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Yingkou City, and co-hosted by the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base Management Committee, the Yingkou Municipal Sports Bureau, and Shanshui Minghe (Beijing) Sports Culture Communication Co., Ltd. The two-day event kicked off on the morning of July 27 and featured four competitions: the Men’s Professional Category Urban Circuit Race, the Men’s Professional Category Team Time Trial, the Men’s Amateur Category Urban Circuit Race, and the “One Kilometer for Love” Public Welfare Race. The races took place around Minghu Lake in the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base, with an approximately 8.2-kilometer circuit that provided a high-quality competitive stage for participants. As a national-level cycling competition, the race attracted over 500 cyclists and cycling enthusiasts, offering them a rare life experience.
After the successful completion of the Men’s Professional Category Urban Circuit Race and the “One Kilometer for Love” Public Welfare Race on the first day of competition, on July 28, the Men’s Professional Category Team Time Trial and the Men’s Amateur Category Urban Circuit Race commenced at Minghu Square. A total of ten professional teams and over 50 athletes competed for podium positions. Despite light rain in the morning, it did not dampen the athletes’ performance or enthusiasm. Unlike the urban circuit race, the Men’s Professional Category Team Time Trial emphasized teamwork, testing the coordination, trust, and synergy among team members.
In the afternoon, the Men’s Amateur Category Urban Circuit Race drew a huge crowd, creating an unprecedentedly lively scene. Nearly 150 amateur riders from well-known domestic clubs and various regions across the country—including Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Shenyang, Dalian, and Huludao—gathered at the Minghu circuit to ride together, share the passion, and ignite the summer with speed and excitement.
After two days of intense and thrilling competition, Sun Zhengshuai from the Yantai Cycling Team won the championship in the Men’s Professional Category Urban Circuit Race, the Dalian Cycling Team claimed victory in the Men’s Professional Category Team Time Trial, Zhang Li took the top spot in the Men’s Amateur Category Urban Circuit Race, and Yingkou’s Li Chong and Zhengzhou’s Cheng Shasha won the men’s and women’s championships in the “One Kilometer for Love” Public Welfare Race, respectively.
It is reported that to encourage more people to enjoy cycling and join the green, healthy, and environmentally friendly cycling movement, this edition of the race specially introduced the “One Kilometer for Love” public welfare cycling activity. The event invited well-known actress Yang Tongshu to serve as its ambassador. On the opening day, she led public welfare riders from ten representative cities in Liaoning Province on a ride to Yingkou, fulfilling the promise of donating ten yuan to a special public welfare fund for every kilometer ridden.
