Now in its seventh year, the Taoyuan Summer Family Art Festival will run from the 15th to the 22nd, featuring five major series of activities—all completely free. Tonight’s opening act will be “JUMP,” one of Korea’s top four performance shows. This year also introduces an interactive art experience area, including tin can telephones, funhouse mirrors, and kaleidoscopes, aiming to combine education and entertainment so that children spending their summer vacation in Taoyuan can create joyful memories.

Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Qiu Zhuangxiu-mei said the Taoyuan Summer Family Art Festival has been running for many years, and its biggest feature is that “it absolutely never repeats last year’s events,” so every year the team brainstorms new tricks and activities. This year’s theme is “Little Rascals,” featuring five major series: Little Rascals Grand Theater, Little Rascals Family Theater, Little Rascals Art Adventure, Little Rascals Expedition, and Little Rascals Story House.

Director Qiu Zhuangxiu-mei said the highlight this year is the renowned Korean performance troupe. The “Korean JUMP” show differs from traditional martial arts with its playful yet serious choreography, enhanced by special music effects to showcase the beauty of the human body. The “Korean Cat Drum Show” incorporates electronic music into traditional percussion instruments, offering a completely unique experience.

The story house creates a “parent-child art experience interactive theater,” combining stories, fairy tales, puppet shows, and dance to spark children’s interest in performing arts. Everyone sings and dances together. This year, Hakka cultural elements are also integrated, allowing children to grow up in a diverse cultural environment. “Little Rascals Expedition” features obstacle games designed with classic childhood toys, evoking nostalgia for adults and hands-on fun for kids. This year also introduces an interactive art experience area, including three art installations—“Happy Tin Can Telephone,” “Magical Funhouse Mirror,” and “Kaleidoscope Maze”—that combine learning with fun. These let families bond and grow through traditional science-based games.
