Limited to autumn only: On Dingsanjiao Bu Ding Mountain above Shulin District’s Weapons Park, every November to December during the transition between autumn and winter, fields are covered with silvergrass blooms. The sea of flowers, like snowflakes, sways in the wind, creating the illusion of a white snowy world and has become one of New Taipei City’s hidden flower-viewing spots, attracting many social media influencers to take photos here.
Lai Hsiao-ping, head of the Military Service Administration Division at the Civil Affairs Bureau, said that Dingsanjiao Bu Ding Mountain is located at the border between Shulin District and Guishan District in Taoyuan City. It is a popular spot for hiking and leisure among locals. By taking the hiking trail next to Weapons Park, it only takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach Dingsanjiao Bu Ding Mountain. With the flower season in full swing, the white silvergrass tassels sway in the wind along the way, creating a romantic scenery with green and white hues.
Lai Hsiao-ping said that besides the beautiful silvergrass, visitors standing at a high vantage point can also overlook the scenic beauty of the Dajia River mirroring the Crescent Bridge. On clear, cloudless days, the city skylines of New Taipei and Taoyuan can also be seen in the distance, with a chance to even catch a glimpse of Taipei 101. For those with enough stamina, they can also continue their hiking adventure to Datong Mountain and Qinglong Ridge.
To serve hikers, Weapons Park also offers ginger tea for visitors to enjoy, and provides lightweight raincoats on rainy days to keep tourists warm and dry during their hike. A hiker surnamed Kuo, who came to shoot the silvergrass scenery on Dingsanjiao Bu Ding Mountain, was captivated by the retired fighter jets, tanks, and cannons at Weapons Park even before starting the climb, using up quite a bit of his camera memory. He praised it as a truly great rest stop.
Lai Hsiao-ping said that Weapons Park is the largest weapons exhibition park in Northern Taiwan, where visitors can get up close to airplanes and tanks, making it a must-visit spot for military enthusiasts. Before enjoying the silvergrass flowers, visitors can also take photos and explore the park, then proceed via the hiking trail to Dingsanjiao Bu Ding Mountain to take Instagram-worthy photos, achieving a multi-experience journey of fitness, flower appreciation, and outdoor adventure all at once.
Weapons Park is located at No. 25 Zhongyi Road, Shulin District. Visitors driving can park at the Weapons Park parking lot before 5 p.m. daily (the park is closed on Mondays and not open to the public). For those using public transport, take bus 701 from Shulin Railway Station and get off at Highway New Village Station, then walk about 400 meters along Zhongyi Street Lane 2 and Zhongyi Street to reach the park.
