“G哥” is down the mountain ! Wu Jiyun, the hiker known for her bikini summit photo, tragically lost her life during a solo climb of the Southern Section Three of the Central Mountain Range. After three failed hoisting attempts yesterday, an aerial rescue helicopter made a fourth attempt this morning and finally succeeded in retrieving Wu Jiyun’s body. It landed at Tongfu Junior High School at 9:09 AM.
Wu Jiyun was solo-climbing the Mabolasih Trail connecting to the Southern Section Three of the Central Mountain Range when she unfortunately fell during the descent from Penjhu Mountain toward Wushuang Village. She is suspected to have been unable to move her lower body due to injuries, making it impossible to set up a tent to shelter from wind and rain, and ultimately succumbed to hypothermia.
The hoisting of Wu Jiyun’s body went through many twists and turns. On the 22nd, the Nantou County Fire Bureau requested an aerial rescue helicopter to retrieve the body, but the rugged terrain at the accident site, cluttered with branches, left no sufficient space for operation. Three helicopter trips were made without success. Finally, on the morning of the 23rd around 9:00 AM, the helicopter successfully transported her down from the high mountain to Tongfu Junior High School in Xinyi Township, Nantou County. The moment the helicopter landed, two or three hikers waiting on the playground excitedly shouted, “Gigi is home!”
In the early hours of the 23rd, the aerial rescue helicopter took off again from ChingChuanKang, arrived at the target area at 8:05 AM to carry out the operation, and completed the mission around 9:00 AM. The body will be transferred to Mianjian Funeral Parlor for examination by the authorities.
