The woman who fell was Heather Friesen, a 26-year-old American beach volleyball player. In 2016, while hiking in the "Kaau Crater" hiking area in Honolulu, Hawaii, she accidentally slipped and plunged 15 meters down the ravine. Although she suffered severe injuries including 10 broken ribs, she fortunately did not have life-threatening injuries.
According to The Sun, Friesen was hiking in the Kaau Crater hiking area with friends at the time. The video shows Friesen standing too close to the edge out of curiosity to get a better view of the scenery, which caused her to slip and fall. Friesen said that in the moment she was falling, she thought about many things. She thought about protecting her arms because she needed them, then she thought about how worried her family and boyfriend—now her husband—must have been. This slip caused Friesen to suffer 10 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured scapula, and other serious injuries. The video also recorded her painful cries and the labored breathing sounds due to the lung collapse. Eventually, with the help of her friends and a rescue helicopter, she was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
