In recent years, the hottest travel trend on the mainland, “self-driving tours,” has been especially popular among young urban elites. Travelers drive themselves, enjoying spontaneous independent journeys, and related books have sold extremely well. Online, a couple from Guizhou shared their “crazy” journey of crossing 14 countries across Asia and Europe in just two months, eventually arriving in London.
《Guiyang Evening News》 and Xinhua Net reported that on the evening of the 12th, netizen “Wu Xiaoliu” posted photos and text on Sina Weibo: “A silver Citroën sedan with the license plate ‘Gui APS431’ was driving on London’s Tower Bridge.” Since the license plate was issued in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, the sight of it in London sparked curiosity among netizens, leading to over 6,000 reposts within a short time.
After verification, it turned out that the post was made by a netizen named “Luoboding Zoutianya,” who said he and his wife, Ding, are both from Guizhou and had previously worked in Shanghai. Due to a job transfer requiring them to go to the UK, the couple, who love road-tripping, came up with the idea of driving all the way to the UK.
After researching the route earlier in the year, the couple began applying for visas to the 14 countries they planned to visit at the respective consulates in Shanghai, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, the UK, and of course, China.
On the early morning of April 6 this year, the couple loaded their “home” onto their own car and set off from Shanghai on this epic journey spanning over 20,000 kilometers.
