The Qingshuiyang Grassland in Yangmingshan was closed last year following an incident where a wild buffalo collided with a visitor. After a full year, the Qingshuiyang Trail has finally announced its reopening, with redesigned pedestrian pathways and designated areas for the cattle, allowing travelers to get up close and enjoy the view of the herd strolling by.

This reopening features a “people and cattle separation” safety design. The central trail’s safety fence has been improved with approximately 530 meters of railing — 130 cm high posts with three horizontal rails that balance aesthetics and weather resistance while preventing water buffalo from crossing or jumping over.

Currently, the first 250 meters up to the first viewpoint have been opened. After completion at the end of September, the entire trail will be open. Subsequent construction will include fencing for the First Rest Lawn and the Second Rest Lawn. These two lawn areas will be used alternately — either as grazing grounds for the wild water buffalo or as resting spots for visitors.

At Qingshuiyang, you can not only watch the activities of the wild cattle but also gaze out over the vast lawns and admire the surrounding mountain scenery. In autumn, the Lengshuikeng Trail within Yangmingshan National Park offers a stunning sea of silvery-white silvergrass blossoms — perfect for leisurely walks and flower-viewing excursions.

Although the trail is open, visitors to Qingshuiyang must take care not to climb over fences into the grassland habitat areas of the wild water buffalo, so as not to disturb their activities. Keep a safe distance from the cattle, do not touch or tease them, avoid approaching or taking flash photos that could stress or harm the animals. Also, pet owners should keep dogs on a leash to avoid startling the cattle.
