One of the enthusiasts, Qiu Yong, said that their self-driving experiences in recent years have been terrible, especially when traveling to popular scenic spots where there are way too many people and accommodation prices are astonishingly high. He recalled that during last year’s National Day holiday on the mainland, they drove to Sanya, Hainan, where rooms that normally cost a few hundred RMB easily went up to over a thousand, and slightly better hotels charged as much as 4,500 RMB per night at the most expensive.
