Handsome lawmaker Zhao Zhengyu promoted the idea that disaster prevention is better than disaster relief by leveraging local resources. He invited 200 parent-child pairs to the Bade Disaster Prevention Education Center. He even donned a firefighter’s uniform himself and joined the kids in role-playing as firefighters—holding hoses to extinguish fires, driving fire trucks and ambulances for emergency rescues—and had a blast embracing his inner child. He joked that being a firefighter is a lot like being a lawmaker: “Both involve driving around on tight schedules!”

Zhao Zhengyu said that while the slogan “disaster prevention is better than disaster relief” is widely known, learning how to prevent disasters is what really matters. The Bade Disaster Prevention Education Center features novel and engaging facilities perfect for family visits and educational fun. For example, students can try on firefighter gear, experience using hoses to put out fires, drive fire trucks and ambulances in rescue scenarios, and even simulate calling 119 to learn how to report emergencies. The center isn’t just for kids—adults can learn a lot too. A special parent-child camp was held to show parents a great place to “take the kids out.”

Zhao Zhengyu had a great time with 88 children, and after trying out driving a fire truck, he joked that disaster heroes and lawmakers are alike: “We both have to rush around driving all the time.” Firefighters rush to save lives, and lawmakers rush from one event to the next—but no matter what, safety always comes first to avoid harming oneself or others.

The Bade Disaster Prevention Education Center has five major exhibition areas: Natural Disasters, Prevention and Response, Fire Incidents, Safe Home, and Firefighting Heroes. It also offers unique experience zones such as a 3D laser interactive cinema, AR children’s drawing fire trucks, CPR combined with AR real-time feedback, VR firefighting in simulated fire scenes, and a smoke-filled sensory experience room. Zhao Zhengyu said the center is like an educational amusement park themed around firefighting. It’s free to visit with online registration, and he welcomes the public to make good use of it.
