The number of mainland Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan has surpassed 1.1 million this year, and the total number of visitors coming to Taiwan for exchanges and tours is expected to exceed 1.5 million by the end of the year. Buoyed by this extraordinary popularity, the Beijing office of the Tourism Bureau, the “Straits Exchange Foundation for Tourism between the Two Sides of the Taiwan Strait” (Taiwan Tourism Bureau), stepped up its promotional campaign yesterday by unveiling a large outdoor LED billboard in Beijing’s busiest Wangfujing Street, promoting the image of Taiwan tourism. In line with next year’s plan to further increase mainland tourist arrivals, the billboard specifically broadcasts the message “Travel Taiwan. 100 Touching Moments. Taiwan Welcomes You” in the capital’s most visited shopping street.
To boost the number of mainland tourists visiting Taiwan, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s Beijing office targeted Wangfujing Street, known as a “super-popular hub” with up to 600,000 visitors daily. Starting yesterday, it used a large outdoor LED billboard to promote Taiwan’s tourism image. In conjunction with next year’s plan to grow the number of mainland visitors, the office specifically aired the advertisement “Travel Taiwan. 100 Touching Moments. Taiwan Welcomes You” on Wangfujing Street, which attracts the highest number of tourists from various provinces and cities.
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau stated that traveling to Taiwan is a popular tourism product among mainlanders. According to the latest statistics, as of December 8 this year, over 1.1 million mainland tourists have visited Taiwan. The original target of welcoming 1 million tourists from tour groups this year was achieved as early as November 9. Seizing the momentum, the Bureau has intensified its promotional efforts. Recently, it proactively promoted Taiwan in cities such as Fuzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, and for the first time launched an image-focused advertising campaign to maintain the sustained appeal of Taiwan as a travel destination.
