A team leader surnamed Jian from a branch of the Keelung City Police Department, along with friends, went hiking on Banping Mountain in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, yesterday (7th) morning. When the group reached the Banping Waterfall, Officer Jian attempted to capture the beautiful scenery but accidentally slipped and fell into a ravine. Emergency responders immediately launched a mountain rescue operation, but rugged terrain and fading daylight made the search difficult. Rescue efforts continued today (8th), with a helicopter deployed, and Officer Jian was rescued around 12 noon and sent to the hospital for treatment.
Yesterday morning, Officer Jian hiked up Banping Mountain with friends. Around 11 am, upon reaching the Banping Waterfall, he took out his phone to photograph the rare sight of the waterfall but accidentally slipped and fell into the ravine. With no cell service in the mountains, his friends first moved him to a safe location before descending the mountain to find a signal. They finally managed to contact the New Taipei City Fire Department around 2 pm.
After receiving the report, emergency responders quickly sent personnel into the mountains to search. It took considerable effort to reach the area where Officer Jian was last seen. However, due to the extremely rugged mountain paths and fading light, although rescuers could hear his calls for help, poor visibility made it impossible to pinpoint his exact location. The search continued until around midnight the next day, but they confirmed that Officer Jian was in a safe condition. Rescuers had to wait until daylight to resume the mission.
Early this morning at around 6 am, rescuers entered the mountains again. The New Taipei City Fire Department alone dispatched one battalion, one company, and four squads, and requested helicopter support from the National Search and Rescue Center. Finally, around 12 noon, the helicopter successfully airlifted Officer Jian. He was found to have a fractured right knee and was flown to Songshan Airport before being transferred to Tri-Service General Hospital’s Neihu Branch for treatment, bringing an end to the harrowing incident.
